The original Magic Shop recording studio began in 1984 on Miramar Beach on the Pacific coast near San Francisco. Built by artist Michael Powers, this beautiful building is still evolving as a work of art today. The studio was founded by composer Christopher Hedge.

Many albums and recording projects were done here, including "The Traveler - with Paul Horn", "The Looking Glass" and much of "Mbongi". Every year, Christopher would teach production to new groups of students, many that continued on in production. If any of Christopher's old students are reading this please email him at chris@themagicshop.com he'd love to hear from you.

The control room was upstairs in the top of the "A" frame with the beautiful Pacific Ocean outside the triangular windows. Some amazing times were spent here. After sessions, both engineers and clients would jump into wetsuits and dash directly into the waves just below the studio. For Chris' children, this place was the ultimate tree house, all wood and stone below and all kinds of strange sounds from above. Quite mysterious. If you are ever in the Half Moon Bay area below San Francisco on the coast, you can find the original Magic Shop (say hello to Michael Powers) about 1 mile south of the Princeton Harbor on Highway 1 - Miramar Beach.
