The Magic Shop recording
studio is appropriately named since it's impossible to tell where the
music comes from. The source and technology of the sound is hidden behind
doors, secret panels, an insight to Christopher Hedges' philosophy of
instruments and technology being transparent to the creative process. All that matters is what you see and what you hear.
The Magic Shop has
been involved in fully integrated soundtrack creation for twenty five years with the goal of enabling every aspect of technical and creative production. A perfect environment for surround mixing
and screening, The Magic Shop recording infrastructure is based on a high definition ProTools HD system (192k 24bit) with the latest digital signal processing. The
room was designed and constructed by Dennis Stearns who has also built
private screening rooms for Steven Speilberg and George Lucas as well
as Skywalker Ranch, Saul Zaentz Film Center, and many of the finest screening
facilities and studios in the world. "Studio A" ( The Hagar Studio) features
an array of Vella Research surround speakers which are among the highest
fidelity speakers available. Paul Vella modified and optimised his speakers
for the Magic Shop in consultation with Dennis Stearns. To the critical
ear the results are at once transparent and spectacular. The room also
features a seven foot drop screen and a video projector. The projector is permanently mounted in
an isolated housing at the optimum focal length and angle for the screen.
Original music production,
the Foley stage, ADR recording and a sound design library from location recordings around the world, make
The Magic Shop a unique soundtrack production facility.
